Collaborative research, a powerful driver of innovation for the Quebec economy
Montreal, November 6, 2024 – Collaborative research is a powerful lever for economic development in Quebec. These are the findings of the five-year report on the nine industrial research clusters (RSRI), conducted by the Quebec Ministry of the Economy, Innovation and Energy (MEIE).
Significant benefits for the transformation of businesses and society
Thanks to their support, RSRIs report that an average of nearly 770 companies carry out R&D activities every year, drawing on the expertise of the research organizations and institutions in their network. This corresponds to a total investment of $929 million over 5 years in industry-institution collaborative research, for economic spin-offs in Quebec estimated at $1 billion. Ultimately, RSRIs have both a positive impact on the competitiveness of companies in the marketplace – they generate additional sales thanks to their R&D – and for Quebec society, which benefits from higher-quality or more sustainable products and services.
