SIPEM – Technological specifications: for which objectives?

PROMPT’s SIPEM (SOUTIEN À L’INNOVATION POUR LA PRODUCTIVITÉ DES ENTREPRISES MANUFACTURIÈRES) program, supported by the Quebec Ministry of the Economy, Innovation and Energy, targets manufacturing companies, helping them to improve their productivity and develop customized technological innovation.

The program is divided into two parts: assistance in drawing up Technological Specifications and financial support for Technological Project Implementation.

Read an interview with Ghislain Nadeau, director of the SIPEM program, about the creation of Cahiers de Charges and its essential role in a successful digital transformation.

In what context should a specification be drawn up?

“Companies that have benefited from MEIE’s Offensive de Transformation Numériqueand Investissement Québec’s Productivité-Essor programs have often invested in various technologies to improve their business processes, their productivity and, consequently, their competitiveness. However, after such technological support and acquisitions, major challenges may remain.

Interoperability between new technological acquisitions and existing systems can become a complex challenge. Also, capturing and using data to improve production prediction, maintenance and quality control in real time. What’s more, some companies already have well-integrated, high-performance systems, making theadoption of new technology costly and risky. In such cases, the most appropriate approach is to add customized functionalities to existing equipment or software.”

What are the solutions to these problems?

“To meet these challenges and enable companies to benefit fully from their digital transformation, SIPEM’s Cahier de Charges Technologiques plays a precise, crucial and complementary role to the support already provided.

In effect, it determines the scope and specifications of the work to be undertaken to ensure successful implementation of new technologies tailored to their specific needs. The consultative approach, carried out by experts pre-qualified through a process managed by PROMPT, is recommended to support companies in this process.

This financial aid reduces the cost of the study and lowers the risk of investment, by defining the project best suited to a specific situation, within the company’s existing or future technological complex.

What are the specifications for?

“The specifications will make it possible to :

  • Prioritize potential custom projects in the production chain;
  • Identify and describe productivity nodes;
  • Identify interactions with newly acquired productivity skills;
  • Confirm or deny the technological challenge, existing product vs. custom development;
  • Describe and quantify the impact on productivity, requiring the development of customized technology;
  • Identify the type of digital technology to be developed;
  • Describe the features to be developed;
  • Produce a Data Flow Diagram;
  • Produce a Use Case Diagram;
  • Confirm the project’s level of technological uncertainty;
  • Assess the level of technological improvement, benefits and advantages;
  • Identify the challenges of cyber security, data governance, operational technologies and software.

Last but not least, a project specification enables you to estimate the costs, time and expertise required to carry out a customized data technology project, and generate productivity gains for your company.

The company will have all the information it needs for the next step, which is to complete an application for SIPEM’s “Aide à la Réalisation de Projet Technologique” program. “

PROMPT offers you 50% financial support for the creation of a technological specification worth up to $10,000 by our qualified experts.
