• Maximum funding per project: up to $350,000.
• Maximum funding level: 30% of total eligible expenses for a sole SME, and 50% of the total eligible expenses for an SME working with a research centre.
• Additional government funding can be stacked to cover up to 50% of eligible project expenses for a sole SME and up to 75% for an SME working with a research centre.
• Maximum project duration: 2 years.

To be eligible, businesses must:

• Be legally incorporated under federal or Quebec laws and registered with the Registraire des entreprises du Québec.

To be eligible, PIIA – SME projects must highlight collaborative research in artificial intelligence and meet the following criteria:

• The project must focus on the development of a new product or new process or the significant improvement of an existing product or process.
• The project must include the necessary level of innovation, i.e., the product or process must have a decisive advantage over existing solutions in a national or international market.
• The project must address technological and/or business risk or uncertainty for the company.
• The project must require research and development efforts.
• The project must demonstrate commercial potential when the product or process is intended for sale.
