PARTENAR-IA | BUSINESS ALLOWS QUEBEC COMPANIES TO REMAIN GLOBALLY COMPETITIVE BY ACQUIRING CAPABILITIES IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

PARTENAR-IA | BUSINESS addresses itself to Quebec businesses, SMEs and startups first and foremost, as they seek to carry out innovation aimed at developing and marketing or adopting technologies in artificial intelligence.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  • Improve business performance through AI;
  • Promote collaboration between businesses (of all sizes, including startups) and the research and innovation communities, with a view to accelerating the integration by businesses, and by society as a whole, of technologies in artificial intelligence;
  • Support structuring projects aimed at widespread adoption of AI by one or several sectors of the economy;
  • Support the development of projects promising significant and immediate economic spinoff;
  • Ensure the development and consolidation of efforts to innovate in the area of AI;
  • Help position Quebec as a leader in AI development.


WHO QUALIFIES?

To qualify, SMEs must have the following characteristics: 

  • Be legally constituted under existing Canadian or Quebec laws and be registered with the Registraire des entreprises du Québec (REQ).
  • Be headquartered in Quebec with their employees or subcontractors working primarily from Quebec.
  • mploy up to 249 people in Quebec.
  • Have net assets of less than $50 million (including net assets of associated companies), calculated on a worldwide basis, in their taxation year ending in the calendar year preceding the given calendar year.
  • Not be owned in a proportion greater than 50% by one or several other existing businesses or organizations.

To qualify, startups in artificial intelligence must present the following characteristics:

  • Be legally constituted under existing Canadian or Quebec laws and be registered with the Registraire des entreprises du Québec (REQ).
  • Must be headquartered in Quebec with employees or subcontractors working primarily from Quebec.
  • Not be owned in a proportion greater than 50% by one or several other existing businesses or organizations.
  • Own the intellectual property user rights for their products, processes or services.
  • At the time of application, they enjoy the support of a business incubator or accelerator.
  • They allocate (or plan to allocate) a significant portion of their resources (50% or more) to developing their business, from the design and development to the marketing of the product, process or service. 


PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • Maximum grant equivalent to $150,000 per eligible partner company;
  • Financial aid paid to businesses;
  • Maximum grant of $600,000 per project (that is, four businesses);
  • Maximum aid rate from PROMPT = 50% of expenses;
  • Maximum cumulative government aid = 75% of expenses;
  • Minimum private contributions: 40% of expenses;
  • Project of no more than (3) three years.
  • Project carried out by, at a minimum, two (2) SMEs or startups;
  • The eligibility of the project is contingent upon the hiring of the equivalent of at least one intern per year (at $15,000), per business, for the duration of the project;
  • Project carried out with one or more public research institute (>20% of the budget, including interns);
  • A large company’s project expenditures may not exceed 20% of the project’s value.
